1961 Porsche 356 1600 super Notchback. The car nobody wanted… The story of this car is significant and wonderful. This 356 was sold new in CA to an actor named John Herrick McIntire known for his role in Westerns. He replaced the lead actors in two highly-successful western TV series after they passed away during production. He replaced Ward Bond as the wagon master on Wagon Train (1957) after Bond's death in 1960, and remained with the series until it ended in 1965. In 1968, he replaced Charles Bickford as the owner of the Shiloh Ranch on The Virginian (1962) after Bickford's death in 1967, and remained with the series until 1970. He would end up keeping this car until close to his passing which then is was passed down to his daughter Holly who lived in Charlottesville Va who herself is an acclaimed actress and artist in her own right. This sweet little car made the West Coast to East Coast move. The car then changed hands due to a local contractor who saw the car in the garage and fell in love with it and the 356 was kept for many years until, moving onto the current owner who is a collector with a passion for special Pcars. With history and documentation to include items relating to the original owner John McIntire this 356 is very special. These are becoming desirable and sought after, having for many years not been wanted. Just serviced and ready for the road or add to a collection.
